The origins of the Learjet 35 and 36 can be traced to a concept of the Learjet 25 and first flew on the 22nd August 1973. The Learjet 35 differed significantly from the 25 in having Garrett TFE731-2-2A engines and a 13 inch stretch to the fuselage to accommodate 8 passengers. Variants include the 1976 Learjet 35A with Garret TFE731-2-2B engines and extended range, permitted through a larger fuel capacity. The Learjet 36 and 36A were developed simultaneously with the 35 and 35A however they differ in having a larger fuselage fuel tank.
