The Gulfstream G550 can trace its origins to the 1997 Gulfstream V. Subsequent modifications (including a fuselage plug allowing for an additional cabin window) and performance increases saw the original GV develop into the GV-SP and then, through a marketing change, to becomes the G550. The changes included the adoption of Rolls Royce BR710 engines (which also feature on the Bombardier Global Express) and the inclusion of Meggitt Carbon Brakes and Lightweight alloy wheels. The G550 also features Gulfstream’s Planevew Cockpit.
